Soho Classical meets Amanda Cook

Guitarist Amanda Cook joined us live in the studio for a stunning performance on our Guitar show. Here she answers more questions, and suggests her favourite tunes.

When did you start playing the guitar and why?

I started playing at 7 years old and was inspired by my Dad who played lead guitar in a band in the 60’s. Mum and Dad also had several classical guitar records that I loved listening to.
What is your favourite piece of music for the guitar?
One of my favourite original pieces is Prelude and Wedding Dance by Ben Verdery and my favourite arrangement is the Andante from J.S. Bach’s Flute Sonata BWV 1034.
Describe your style of performance in 3 words.
From the heart!
Tell us your first memory of London.
My Mum took me to the Barbican to hear Alfred Brendel play Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto no.2 when I was a teenager which was amazing, followed by a Mexican in Chiquitos!!!
What is one piece of classical music you couldn’t live without?
I love Schumann’s Cello Concerto.
